A little background on this picture... this was taken during a sunrise near "Donkey Beach". What brought this area to my attention was the unique stones on the right that were protruding through hardened dirt. It almost looked alien to me. The area all around was strewn about with chipped rocks. Not the easiest type of rocks to work with. The coconut coast (east side of Kauai) was at one time full of pineapple fields and canneries. Taking my inspiration from cairns I had seen in other parts of the world, I thought I would try to simulate the look of a pineapple... well at the least the lower part. I built the cairn the day prior and hoped that it would still be there the next morning. It was and was able to get this gorgeous shot. Interestingly, it was the first shot I had to ride my bicycle to as the Kapaa bike path passes near by this area. No cars allowed. Of course, after the shot, I re-scattered the stones throughout the area they were collected from. Enjoy.
